ChatGPT review

ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is one AI conversational tool that is on the lips of digital marketers. Many are exploring it to see what it offers to the AI content world.

You want to also explore it, and that’s why you’re here to read a ChatGPT review to see if it is worth the hype.

Open AI, the company that owns ChatGPT, launched it on November 30, 2022, and since then over 1 million users have signed up to use it.

I signed up to explore it in December 2022 and will share my experience with you in this review.

I will also show you the features, pros, and cons of ChatGPT, plus all other things you need to know about this AI tool that generates content for you via chat.

ChatGPT Review – Features

Here we look at the features of this tool.

1. GPT – 3- Based Language Model

ChatGPT runs a GPT-3 based language model and is known for answering Google-style questions, generating code, and writing simple copy. Its model relies on deep learning principles to generate copy that looks like what humans wrote.

It combines NLP, and API and has a pre-trained algorithm that feeds it with web pages and high-quality blog posts.

This is why some content marketers who are against AI writing tools believe that AI content is a vomit or paraphrasing of what exists on the internet.

2. Multilingual

ChatGPT provides answers and responses in other languages apart from English. However, its accuracy isn’t as good as in English language.

Its model is trained in US English, so I won’t expect it to do wonders in German, Spanish, French, etc.

But OpenAI has assured users that it will continue to improve the overall performance of this tool.

This is where its competitor Jasper Chat has an advantage over ChatGPT. It supports engaging the AI in 29 different languages to generate content via conversation.

3. Good Memory Of Previous Prompt

Remembering previously asked questions in a chat is key to having a successful conversation. ChatGPT possesses this feature. You can give it a command in line with the previous one, and it will execute it perfectly.

4. Speedy Response

ChatGPT immediately generates a response without wasting time. Once you finish typing and hit the enter button, the answer follows. The only challenge that will keep you waiting is if your internet connection is weak.

5. Write & Debug Code

If you aren’t a developer but want to write a simple line of code to fix issues on your website, call on ChatGPT.

For instance, you can ask it to write a code that changes the headline of your site to ” You Can Do It”

Below is me asking ChatGPT to do it and the response:

ChatGPT writes code

I went further to ask it to explain how can I implement it:

My Experience Using ChatGPT

As a blogger, freelance SEO content writer and link builder, I have explored ChatGPT to see how it can help me.

First, I used to generate a list of blog post ideas in ecommerce which I want to cover in my blog.

Below is what I got:

The blog post ideas sound interesting and are all related to the ecommerce industry.

I also asked it to write a blog post intro on the topic – How to start an ecommerce business

Here is the outcome:

It also looks good, but I have to edit and modify it to make it suit my blog tone and target audience.

I went further to ask it to explain how I can get high paying freelance clients, and below was its response:

In the aspect of link building, I asked it to explain white hat link building, and it did well also:

One thing I noticed in all the content, ChatGPT generates is that it pulls it from the top ranking pages on search engines like Google

That’s why I suggest you use it as a writing assistant, otherwise you end up regurgitating what exists on the internet.

What Is The Cost Of ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is free to use for now. But expect OpenAI to monetize it in the near future. Already Sam Altman the CEO of OpenAI in a December 2022 tweet hinted that they will charge users citing that the computing cost is eye-watering.

The question now is: How will it charge?

I guess it will use the credit model just like it with its AI image generator – DALL-E, a competitor of Jasper Art

On DALL-E, you get 50 credits for free every month and purchase 115 for $15/month once you exhaust it.

Pros Of ChatGPT

  • It’s free to use and doesn’t require credit card details
  • Works seamlessly on any smart device
  • The user interface is beginner-friendly
  • Speedy response to chat
  • Can write code
  • Keeps good memory of previous prompts
  • Allows you to provide follow-up corrections
  • Declines inappropriate requests

Cons Of ChatGPT

  • The information it generates isn’t 100% correct
  • Content sometimes can be biased to suit a certain narrative
  • Has little knowledge of events after 2021
  • Error messages sometimes occur, and you have to reload to continue using it

How Does ChatGPT Work?

ChatGPT works through the large database of information on the internet which it is trained with. It makes it capable of answering questions you can in Google style, make recommendations, carry out a command and respond to follow-up questions.

Below is an infographic of how ChatGPT is trained to work:

Do the following to start using ChatGPT:

  • Go to the homepage of OpenAI
  • Scroll to the bottom, under featured, click on ChatGPT
  • Click on Try ChatGPT
  • Sign up by entering your name, email address, and phone number
  • A verification code is sent to your phone
  • Enter the code and viola, you are set to start using ChatGPT

ChatGPT Alternatives

JasperChat and Chatsonic are top alternatives to ChatGPT.

JasperChat, a product from Jasper, has its learning model focusing on business cases like marketing and sales. It sources from OpenAI’s GPT-3 and also combines that with other models like T5 and Neo X. It shares some features with ChatGPT but has an edge in some aspects.

For example, JasperChat allows you to have conversations with the AI in 29 different languages. Also, you can send JasperChat a document to complete a workflow.

Here is an article where I reviewed JasperChat and compared it to ChatGPT.

JasperChat is free like ChatGPT, but you have to subscribe to the Boss Mode plan of Jasper AI writer, which starts at $59/month to use it.

Chatsonic is also similar to ChatGPT and JasperChat. But it came with something different, which is the voice chat. So instead of typing, you can use voice to have conversations with the AI and generate content.

Chatsonic is free, but must first subscribe to their AI writing tool – Writesonic to use it.

All You Need To Know About ChatGPT

As you get excited to use ChatGPT to boost the level at which you produce content, there are things to keep in mind.

1. ChatGPT Can’t Replace Google

Google is a search engine that has come to stay. ChatGPT algorithm leverages what exists on search engines like Google to generate content for you. So, ChatGPT can’t replace Google.

Google provides more accurate and credible information. At least it cites sources and provides infographics, and other proofs writers use to lay credence to their content. Not only that, it also ranks pages based on E-E-A-T (Experience Expertise Authority Trust).

For example, Google trusts Healthline and Mayoclinic when it comes to anything about human health. Same with Semrush, Ahrefs, NeilPatel, Moz, and others when it comes to SEO.

ChatGPT generates content without giving you reasons to trust it. And there are contents that can cause harm if they are false. That’s why some content marketing marketers take ChatGPT with a pinch of salt. You have to fact-check to ensure they are 100% correct.

2. Its Data Isn’t Updated in Real Time

ChatGPT can’t provide content on events that happen beyond 2021. That’s why I say its data isn’t updated in real time.

I asked it to tell me the country that won the 2022 FIFA WorldCup and below is what it said:

ChatGPT isn't updated real time

3. See It As An Assistant – Don’t Over Rely On It

A lot of content creators are over-relying on ChatGPT. Some are using it to write blog posts. Even writers that sell gigs on Fiverr have found a new content machine in it. See ChatGPT as an assistant that will help you generate content ideas, structure your content and guide you on how to make it stand out.

Copying and pasting precisely what it gives you is like regurgitating what exists on the internet. No unique perspective, no closing of content gaps, and no value added.

4. You Can’t Use It For Technical Content

ChatGPT is good for informational content. It does a poor job at technical content that requires a touch of human experience and expertise. Let’s say you want to compare two project management software to see which is better. Don’t expect ChatGPT to generate content that can guide you toward making a wise decision.

I put it to the test by asking it to compare Asana to Trello.

Below is what I got:

It provided the basic information but couldn’t do a side-by-side comparison like someone that has used the tools.

Its Creators, OpenAI, Have Other Products Like Dalle-2

OpenAI, the company that owns ChatGPT, has other products like DALL-E which is an AI image generator. You can combine it with ChatGPT to add more value to your content. While you use ChatGPT to generate content ideas, you can use DALL-E to generate artistic images.

FAQs On ChatGPT

Let’s answer the questions you ask about ChatGPT.

Is ChatGPT Accurate?

ChatGPT isn’t always accurate. There are cases where it generates information that turns out to be misleading or false upon verification. Even OpenAI admits that this is one of the limitations of ChatGPT.

Is ChatGPT A Threat To Human Jobs?

It isn’t a threat to human jobs. ChatGPT is just a writing assistant. It can’t compete with professional content creators that have experience, and expertise and also add emotions to make their content relatable.

Businesses that use content to promote their products and services to target audience won’t rely on ChatGPT for such content. They will hire top-rated copywriters that understand their target audience, and know how to use words to get them to take action.

How Does ChatGPT Help With SEO?

It generates a list of blog ideas and topics for you to build topic clusters, which are important to rank for competitive topics in your niche. You can ask it to generate keywords you can rank for easily in your niche. Beginners in SEO can ask basic questions that help them come up with an SEO strategy.

Take a look at the screenshot below:

Take Away

ChatGPT has made it easy for everyone to generate content via conversation. But you must be deliberate on what you want to use it for. I have explored the features, pros & cons and also shared my experience with you.

Keep in mind that not all the information it generates is correct, can’t provide information for events that took place after 2021, and it doesn’t cite sources that boost credibility.

I suggest using ChatGPT as an assistant in content creation. Leverage it to generate ideas, ask questions, and seek explanations that help to make content creation easy and boost your productivity. Finally, fact-check and verify any information it generates that you have doubts about.
